NOVA have competition?
And finally
NOVA Magazine is a monthly publication with a modular range of advertisement formats to suit most budgets and offers flexibility in content and frequency. NOVA Magazine is a ‘serious’ publication and you may find your supplier will provide artwork and/or will subsidise the cost of advertising.
Pay as you go display advertising in NOVA Magazine starts at £29.70 per issue for a 63 x 42mm advert. This price includes 5%* discount for prompt payment and is subject to vat at 20%. Further discounts are available for prepaid block bookings, giving a total discount of 10%* for three prepaid advertisements, 15%* discount for six prepaid advertisements and 25%* for twelve prepaid advertisements. *Actual discount rates vary slightly according to the size of the advertisement.
OK, if you’re in a hurry for the full pricing information press the red button now and come back to finish reading this article!
NOVA Magazine is published to a prearranged schedule, making it easy to plan your campaign in advance. So, if you decide what you want to achieve, we will do our best to help you on the road to success. Acceptance of advertising matter is at the discretion of the publisher.
Deadlines are of critical importance to our business, without them we’d never publish anything! We gather/accept advertising and editorial copy progressively leading up to the specified deadlines in our schedule – the deadline should not be used as a target as it’s possible we may close our books early. Allowance should also be made to cater for any dialogue that may be required before acceptance for publication. A submission received close to the deadline can cause serious problems and there is a risk it will be excluded.
Supplements and other inserts may be distributed with NOVA Magazine provided they can be stitched into the centrefold. Advance booking for this service is essential. Normally we would require inserts to be carried in all copies of the magazine but we can sometimes provide more selective distribution on request. More technical information is available here. Please note, we do not provide a service for the distribution of loose leaflets – typically A5 flyers.
From time to time you may wish to submit interesting and informative editorial to complement your display advertising and this is where you can engage closely with readers and further motivate them to get in touch. For new pay as you go advertisers editorial space can be available with your third advert and for prepaid bookings with your second advert. We cannot promise free editorial space in every issue.
The style of writing is important if you hope to promote readers’ trust in your business. It must be new, readable and contain a substantial message. Some effort will be required but don’t be put off, editorial coverage can be very effective and valuable to the reader as well as you.
How many words? Two hundred words would be a brief article and can be entirely appropriate, depending on the message. Four hundred words is normal but beware if you substantially exceed this – you’ll be in danger of turning people away unless you’re on a particularly engaging topic!
Editorial space is normally free to our regular advertisers and because of this we have a fair use policy and ultimately what we print and the layout is down to us. New and existing advertisers may also wish to consider the special benefits of an Advertising Feature. It’s important to appreciate that free editorial space is just that, it’s not free advertising space, so the content must justify the cost to us of layout, printing and distribution.
Here are some guidelines for Editorial Features... To an extent the scale and frequency of free editorial space we allocate can depend on the size of your advertisement and your commitment to NOVA Magazine over the year, the quality and interest value of contributions also play a vital role. Contact us in advance so we can schedule your editorial – well in advance if your editorial is time sensitive, so we can endeavour to allocate space in the appropriate issue. And definitely avoid using the editorial deadline as a target for submission of editorial. We aim to resolve queries arising from submissions before final deadline and if that cannot be done your editorial may well be excluded.
Whatever you do, be accurate and check your facts very thoroughly: names of people and organisations, quotations, titles of books and films, dates – everything! Do not copy the work of others as it will almost certainly be covered by copyright law, and that includes Internet pages. If you have used a third party source within your submission you must tell us and demonstrate that the usage is authorised. Any usage of third party material can jeopardise compliance with these guidelines.
Don’t be tempted, however subtly, to be critical of your competitors. You must not promote any other business within editorial contributions.
Although a few bullet points may help to convey your message, a massive list of them won’t! Also, don’t rely on tables or any special formatting, we need plain text and we’ll take care of the layout and formatting ourselves – send a Word .doc or better still an .rtf file from any word processor, single column without headers or footers (pdf files are not suitable for editorial). Please append the word count to the end of your editorial.
If you intend to submit your editorial to other publications it is important that we have exclusive use until after our publication date. A press release generally doesn’t meet our requirements for format and exclusivity; we want you to tell your own story in person, it’s not for us to tell your story like we interviewed you – when we didn’t!
All submissions are subject to our editing, including any suggested headline, and you will not see the final version before we go to press. We provide no guarantees but many are reassured by our input and we have proved our worth over the years. Editorial submissions are subject to the conditions contained in the Small Print section of this website and publication of editorial will always depend on the availability of space.
All editorial submissions must be complete and printable without substantial input from us – no abbreviations, no ampersands when an and is required and no blanks for us to fill in, like your phone number! The quality of the writing shall be to an acceptable standard and must comply with these guidelines. If these conditions are not met or the feature depends on complex formatting, diagrams or tables for example we will reject the submission or possibly offer to publish as an advertising feature for which there would be a charge.
Finally, we need photographs to accompany editorials and especially if you are in a face to face business we’ll need a photo of you. Sharp high resolution photographs are required for printing – minimum 200dpi – and must be supplied as separate images (normally jpg) and not embedded in a word processor file. The photograph file size is likely to be 200KB or bigger.
Advertising Features integrate display advertising and editorial content. The minimum size is normally a full page and price is by negotiation. In this instance the entire layout including editorial would be proofed before going to press. There is no qualifying period for Advertising Features but special payment conditions apply.
NOVA Magazines offer a very flexible package and we will do our best to respond to changing needs and circumstances and if you have a block booking, you can skip issues without penalty.
You will want to advertise successfully with NOVA Magazine. Here are a few things to consider:
• What’s your budget? Plan to use it over a period. It can take time to gain readers’ confidence
• What’s your message? Give readers a clear reason to contact you
• Think about your branding. This is vital, the multinationals spend millions but you probably don’t need to! However, many of our advertisers realise its importance and differentiate themselves through their branding
• Try to rough out a design but, unless you are an expert, you’ll do best by keeping it simple
• Make your advertisement easy to read. Don’t choke your advertisement with too many words
• You can incorporate photographs or logos but make sure they are good quality
• It’s worth investigating the possibility of your suppliers providing a basic layout or even a complete design for your advertisement
• Work out the best timing and content for editorial to enhance your campaign
Once we have agreed on the size and content of your advertisement we will send an Invoice and a Proof Copy before we go to press.
If you have made a discounted prepaid block booking, payment will be due by the Monday after the advertising deadline. If you elect to advertise on a pay as you go basis you will be invoiced at our standard rate and given a deadline date for payment which will secure a double discount to be applied to your next advertisement – that’s 5% off your next advertisement and a retrospective 5% off your first advertisement. From then on, if you meet our payment deadlines, you’ll get an automatic 5% prompt payment discount each time. Details of the payment deadline and the methods of payment will be on the invoice.
There is normally a nominal £15 + vat design charge for new advertisements. This would be waived if we receive artwork as a PDF which meets all our requirements for publication – the version of PDF supported by printing is PDF 1.3 (Acrobat 4), all colours CMYK (process colours), 200dpi minimum resolution, font information must be included (Pantone® colours may be specified but these will be converted to process colours, as is normal for magazine printing, so exact colour matching cannot be guaranteed). The charge would also normally be waived for prepaid block bookings of three or more issues. We will advise if any additional charge is due.
We retain the copyright for all designs produced by us. Our designs must not be used elsewhere without our written permission.
You may wish to employ an agency to design your artwork and write copy for your campaign with us. Please note however that unless otherwise agreed our point of contact for all negotiations and invoicing must be directly with you. If running a broader campaign, please note our exclusivity requirement regarding editorial.
Before each deadline we send a brief email to our customers, sometimes containing a link to a Newsletter on this website, to act as a timely reminder and perhaps to comment on matters which could have an effect on trading conditions.
We help our display advertisers to recruit staff by offering a free AdLINE of up to 25 words – just email the details.
